Court interpreting

I had another court interpreting assignment this morning, which is always rather interesting. I must say, I totally admire lawyers who have to fight for their clients (whether they are in the right or not) and judges who have to make decisions in difficult cases. In comparison, my job is actually relatively straighforward, the basic legal vocabulary is already in place, I just read up on the case if I am lucky enough to get any documentation beforehand and off I go, totally impartial and unbiased, interpreting as accurately as I possibly can. However, one of the biggest problem at present is the added difficulty of understanding people through their face mask, and today I had a couple of rather challenging moments. Still, it comes with the job.
